What do miners, climbers, mechanics, trades people, others and ‘unstoppable’ Artists’ Painters’ have in common… ?
Headlamps !
Yes, headlamps!
When I am working – painting throughout the night / Or day in my indoor Art studio or outside in my outdoor Art studio and I need more light – I put on my Headlamp and continue!
I continue painting my Luxury Paintings, creating my Luxury Art pieces !

Ever since I was a child, I felt exhilarated whenever I walked into a stationery store, received my new stationery for another new year at school, entered Painters’, Artists’ Crafters’ stores, or even hardware stores! A total buzz for us Artists
One of my most memorable times was, as a tourist. I got ‘lost’ in an absolutely gigantic – enormous store that went on and on and on in items, storage, shelving and endless choices!
This was Artists’ Painters’ Crafters’ paradise!!!
Back in Australia, there weren’t any stores as enormous as this store that I knew of – anywhere!
There were what seemed like, kilometres and kilometres of endless colours of items – same in different shades, brands and sizes !
I spent most of the day’s daylight in there because it was late morning when I entered the monstrosity and by the time I exited, it was that part of the day that one knows the sunlight is about to start winding down.
That store catered for every Artists’ dream supplies!
I had a budget, but like a child in a candy store, I had to make decisions and sacrifices on those decisions!
Overwhelmed, is a perfect way to describe The Exhilaration Buzz Of New Stationery Arts Crafts Supplies before me!
Word of Advise to All non Painters’ Artists’ Crafters’
When a Painter, Artist, Crafter announces “I need, or I want to get…” There is no such of “You have enough!” Or “You have enough already!” An insult to us!
As a matter of fact ‘We’ Artisans – Virtuosos can never have enough supplies. We are Always Creating, Arting, Painting, Perfecting our Craft(s) –
I named my Marisa Angelis Artist Art ! Merchandise ‘Souvenirs’, as I enjoy adding fun and colour to my Art and merch… The joy that has accompanied my design and final creation for All to revel in!
Something for Everyone, of All Walks of Life, Ages, Fazes and really Cool Kids of Various Sizes and Genders that are So Awesome they just want to Express Abstract Cooolness!

Multiculture and Multiculturalism – There is no pure race on planet Earth
Since ancient times, we humans are so mixed, so multiracial, so Pandemos Diaspora !
We have descended from the descended, that it has become impossible to think of ourselves of being from one or a few ‘other‘ countries!
Most of us descend from several nations and a few or more continents!
Advertisements
Born in… I’m from with… Multiracial ancestry, mainly from… Ah…! That’s why Oh no, not really…! I strongly resemble …
We take from seven generations on either side of our biological parents, however, if we have step parents – especially from age 0-3, it is possible that we tend to subconsciously mimic stepparents’ body language /expression.

At the reaching point of over one thousand members, Facebook changed the way members viewed each other in group pages, so after almost five years, I ended the page because the type of interaction that was once happening slowly seized.
The group page was an interesting experience and blend of people; with marketers, supporters, ‘fun-sters’, givers, takers and some fakers!
Members included people from Europe, Asia, Africa, Arab countries, USA, Australia and everywhere else in the world!

Throughout my life’s Luxury Art Paintings, I have often painted the sun and sunshine!
Spreading Hope Through My Suns And Sunshine!!!
The shapes of my suns’ depictions were first pointed out to me by a visiting gentleman at one of my Art exhibitions of Luxury Paintings.
A hobby painter, he radiated with delight when he spoke about the shape of my ‘suns’
He said, “I thought you might like to know that I have picked up on your suns!” I wasn’t sure what he was referring to and looked at him slightly puzzled…
He said “All of your work here is great! I want to point out to you that I noticed, you have a distinct style with suns. You paint suns in a certain way that I have never seen before…. I will tell you, I am a guy that goes to art exhibitions and I have been to hundreds of them… I have never, never, seen painted suns like yours! I really like your suns!”
After I thanked him, he called out enthusiastically to his wife and daughter, introducing us whilst explaining to them what he had just informed me of – the painting style of my suns!
The ladies followed him as he showed them to the paintings with the suns. The trio thanked me and wished me “All the very best with your career and keep on with your art painting!“

My Fascination With All Awesome Things Of Ocean Sea inspired part of my Artistic obsession!
I often joke when people ask me what my heritage is, I tell them my DNA is Ocean and my ancestors were Sea….
It is true though because most of my ancestry’s history hails from islands, and coasts, the Ocean – Sea
Born on The island of Australia! Australia is an island surrounded by Sea
The Ocean and the Sea – Tend to follow me
I create Ocean Sea themes – A large part of my Art!
During my art exhibitions, Art of Sea themes, filled with subjects of the Ocean – Luxury Paintings, Poetry, Models, Costume Jewellery – Luxury Necklaces and Mosaics!
Paint with brush in hand, or fingers, I may even use my toe – you never know!
This reflects in and throughout my Paintings and Artwork
Many times throughout my career, I have been asked if I use paint colours directly out of, tube, container, jar or bottle?
For those of you who are wondering, my answer is No 🙂
I always mix my paint Colour
I am often complimented with;
“Your work is very Colourful”, “I like the Colours You Use”, “You use really nice Colours”, “you definitely know how to mix and blend Colour”, “You know how to match Colours well” and many other wonderful ‘pick ups’ on/ Of my Artwork!
“Great!” I say to myself, they saw it, they picked up on my Colour Expression !!!

Through the centre of The City of Adelaide, flows the beautiful quaint River Torrens. The river lies on a narrow coastal plain. To the west is Gulf of St Vincent and to the east, the Mount Lofty Rangers.
Clean pristine beaches and the awe wonderful Kangaroo Island, a fantastic attraction, a must for any visitor.
South Australia features, hills, valleys, vineyards, mountains and gorges
A favourite to most, especially stargazers, campers, hikers and nature lovers is outback Flinders Ranges, north of Adelaide!
The original name for Adelaide is Tarntanya – Red Kangaroo Place
Anyone from Adelaide is referred to as an Adelaidian!
South Australia is known as The Festival State
Adelaide was the wife of the British King William IV
First European settlement was by English Lords and the only state in Australia not to be settled by convicts
Since 25 November 1982 Adelaide, South Australia State Colours are -Blue, Red, Gold
1627, mariners had sailed along the south coast until January 1802 aboard the ‘Investigator’ ship Mathew Flinders the explorer sailed onto the area known to us today as South Australia
Adelaide was planned by Colonel William Light in 1836, with its city centre laid out on a square mile grid, wide streets surrounded by 930 hectares of parklands
In 1999, I approached Radio Stations in Adelaide, South Australia and became a regular guest poet and share presenter with one of the most popular FM bandwidth Australian Greek radio stations that reaches listeners world wide.
For my introduction, I discussed my Art work, Luxury Paintings and how Cultural Diversity – Australia, Multiculturalism and the Environment are the core of my Creativity.
Back then no one knew the term Cultural Diversity or what it was/is.
I am the person who brought forth and made ‘Cultural Diversity’ known through various media channels.
The term; Cultural and Diversity was brought together in 1998 after a deeply personal experience shook my awareness of people and cultures and how they saw each other.
One night, as I sat on a red sofa, I opened the dictionary and looked at both words, bringing them together; Cultural Diversity.
In 1999, the media journalists; newspapers, sporting clubs, industries were becoming aware of and ‘picked up’ on ‘Cultural Diversity’ !
I continued to recite my Poetry, hosting competitions and participating in extensive interviews, including Talk Back with listeners throughout Australia and the World which remains another highlight of my career.
My weekly radio segment brought a little happiness and excitement into the lives of many listeners with opportunities for the general public to win and grin, as I offered my up-cycled art pieces and painting ‘Idols’ as prizes!
My interviews were in English, Greeklish, Greek and I had a wonderful time ‘brushing up’ on my Greek!
This experience was educational; I crafted my language skills, it built confidence in me – The professional Artist and Poet and I was truly honoured that my poetry was being enjoyed by a great number of listeners!
From time to time people of all backgrounds and walks of life, would ask “Are you the Artist, on the radio station?”
Whilst my regular weekly segment was happening, I was invited to another two Radio stations; On FM bandwidth, one was for Australian Ethnic broadcasting that broadcasted throughout Australia and the other on AM bandwidth International, reaching listeners all over the world!
A tremendous opportunity for me to discuss my Art Paintings and Poetry / Jewelry/ Jewellery / Art Models/ Mosaicsand exhibitions as well as inviting everyone to view my Art in galleries, establishments, festivals and anywhere else that my Art was being exhibited.
At my time with the International radio station, I was offered my own Radio program.
The phone wouldn’t stop ringing, interest and popularity was strong, Theodoris the presenter, handed me a microphone, “The mics yours! Please come back, people love what you are doing, people relate to you… Look, the phone hasn’t stopped ringing the whole time we have been on air!”
It all began when my family took me for a trip to The Hellenic Republic/ Greece.
My curiosity and intrigue developed when I sat on my father’s shoulders for the ultimate tour, as we all walked through the ruins of ancient Athens, Olympia, Ireon/ Heraion and everywhere else!
‘Tekton /Tecture’ – from the Hellenic/ Greek word ‘Techne’ – Skill – Artisan/ Craftsman – Craftsperson!
Architecture is ‘The Beginning of the Skill’!
So, Architecture or being an Architect is beyond ‘building’ as in ‘construction’ as in mud huts, bricks, timber, concrete etc.
We are The Architects of our Architecture…
We Plan, Design, Construct, Evolve… Travel – Reside – Travel
Structure – Life or as in a Building, or as in my Profession, a Painting!
Advertisements
I enjoy Architecture so much, that in most of my Luxury Paintings, it is likely that there will be some form of Architecture incorporated into my artwork.
Sometimes, the Architecture is the whole process, not just the visual or visual outcome – product/ product of Creation…
Touring the most magnificent Architectural sites of early ‘civilisation’, was indeed visually confronting and an amazing experience to say the least!
Statues of people, lions, animals, Corinthian pillars, antiquities, part ancestry, part mystery and all a priceless education.
Flashes of Architecture, Art, Sculpture, Character Houses with Expressions.
Blue and white – ocean, sky, green shrubs, trees, rubble and golden sunshine beaming into my eyes, as I looked on at the shadowy silhouettes from my surroundings.
Yes, it was exciting and a wonderful memory!
I was introduced to ancient Hellenic culture; inventions; arts, architecture – The Parthenon at the Acropolis, science, mathematics – Pythagoras, philosophy, medicine, diversity, Hellenic mythology, history, cuisine, olive oil, goats, donkeys, horses, the aroma of Ouzo, travelling market garden sellers, three wheeler trucks and that the ocean in this part of the world, was not inhabited with sharks!
Advertisements
Since that time, I have travelled to diverse destinations, mystical lands of various cultures and have discovered, learnt, worked, observed and enjoyed Architecture right up to present.
I see how the rest of the world has influenced Australia my country of birth and in particular South Australia; grand old houses that once belonged to British lords, Mediterranean naval villa’s, Stationmaster cottages, Dutch dwellings, Corinthian pillars, Meanders, Greek and Chinese key motifs, modern Iranian architecture, Spanish villas and so on…
As my Artwork of luxury paintings are expressively created – evolving; painting, designing, graphic digital images, photography and jewellery/ jewelry design all naturally include a significant influence of Architecture.
Advertisements
‘Structure?’ Okay! Lets not complicate it! Simply, Yes of course! Look deeper and deeper into the abstract and expressionism!
Architecture has inspired my life, thoughts, feelings and creativity in every possible way.
For example: What is ? ₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪
Is it a ‘Grecian Key’ or a ‘Greek Fret’ ?
Is it an Ancient Hellenic Design used in Architecture and Art?
Is it a Greek Motif used time and time again everywhere around and throughout the world and in important buildings of governance – notoriety – nobility or Art Deco era Architecture?
This Design is the ‘Meandros’ or commonly known in English as ‘Meander’
Meandros is named after the twisting and turning path of the Maeander River in Asia Minor/ Anatolia, Anatole – Hellenic Greek – part of my ancestry – now Turkey. The Meandros is featured prominently in Hellenic Architecture because it belongs to the Hellenic/ Greek Empire.

You may notice that I incorporate this architectural design into my website. You may also notice that I sometimes incorporate this architectural design or architecture into my artwork -> Luxury Art Paintings, -> Luxury Necklaces and other Art Pieces – It Remains Forever Embedded Into My Creative Being – Here is an example;
My beautiful late Pappou/ Grandfather, was a Greek islander of Anatolian descent. His professions included; Saddler, Farmer, Market Gardener, Soldier and Army Cook, Soap Maker and Distributor during the great depression and a Butcher’s Apprentice. Pappou was a champion Backgammon player and above all a Kind Gentleman as remember by many and those who loved and knew him.
After my Grandparents married they helped raise and support my grandmothers’ three younger siblings and her young widowed mother who outlived my Grandfather. Later in life, my Great Grandmother informed me that my Grandfather was an angel.
Whilst in the army, a fellow Greek ship accidentally blew up my Grandfather and his platoon, mistaking them for the enemy. My Grandfather and a fellow soldier the only two survivors had to bag body parts.
Yiayia and Pappou – My Late Grandparents
My late Grandparents’ love for each other, was so strong that before the news broke out about the blast, my late Grandmother was on her knees, newly wedded and praying that her husband would be safe.
Amongst his pets Pappou had Tzak, the dog, many cats, horses, donkeys and goats.
Towards the end of the war, Pappou, learnt to converse in Italian with a small group of Italian soldiers, swapping goods for goods, so that he could carry out his soap making.
Immigrating to Australia my Grandparents became Australian. Proud to be Hellenes/ Greek, excited and anxious to commence their new life in Australia. They had a cat which was very playful, a lot of fun and always performing tricks. Pappou worked extremely hard on the South Australian railways and later in a factory, was self sufficient, cooked and carried out many chores, kept a huge garden of vegetables, herbs and fruit trees; including one of my favourites, wild Cherry trees!
When Pappou planted a wild cherry tree in our backyard and it started growing… I would go to the tiny non fully grown cherries, pick them…. Hold the miniature cherries in my hand and squeeze them, as I watched the liquid cherry reddish/ purplish colour, rush and run all over my hand and so my excitement, my inspiration for liquid colour – Paint began at an early age! I noticed how the liquid stained my hand and started rolling it around on my skin – ‘Wow’ !
“Marisa, leave the cherries to grow so we can eat them…” But little did dad know, what I had discovered!
When I was a toddler Pappou would sit me on his knee and I would play with his orange beaded komboloi/ Komboloyee, Greek ‘happy’ pass time beads. Many years later, I found one of the orange komboloi beads tossed in my late Grandparents garage and knew that Pappou was ‘talking’ to me. One bright orange bead –
Pappou’s komboloi of beads, was my creative embedding for designing and creating beaded Luxury Necklaces / Jewellery – Jewelry!
Pappou would have Loved this Necklace ‘Harmony’ perhaps for Yiayia! In his favourite colours – Orange and Carnelian, Handmade, Designed and Created by Marisa Angelis
Whenever my father tried to renovate; repair windows with putty, little fingers followed – I was a crafter from way back!
Sorry dad! You had to re apply everything twice – maybe even three times!
I’d follow and watch dad making, fixing, building, growing, nurturing everything!
